Numeric jacket sizes generally relate to chest measurement in inches, although exact conversions vary by brand.

How to Measure

Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug.

Waist: Measure around your natural waistline without pulling the tape tightly.

Sleeve Length: Measure from the shoulder point down to the wrist with your arm slightly bent.

Shoulders: Measure across the back from one shoulder point to the other. This is particularly useful for structured jackets and coats.

Choosing the Right Size

Jackets: Choose primarily by chest size and consider sleeve and shoulder fit.

Coats: Allow enough room for clothing underneath. If between sizes, the larger size is generally preferable for layering.

Vests / Gilets: Chest measurement is most important; sleeve length does not apply.

Understanding Fit

Slim Fit — closer through the chest and waist.
Regular Fit — standard shape with comfortable room.
Relaxed Fit — additional room through the body.
Oversized Fit — intentionally designed substantially larger than a regular fit.
